Here we have our lovely Super Beetle Karmann Cabriolet - Triple White Edition. These were technically a special order at the factory and only available in the final year of the German-built Beetle. They were solely built for the US market with even the final Beetle Cabriolet built being a Triple White Edition. This is a highly original and totally rust/rot free example, all of the usual Beetle rust spots are in very good and original condition. It was originally a dry-state car and therefore has absolutely no signs of previous welding repairs, having never required them. The car was imported into the UK in 1991, where it lived at a manor house in Chipping Campden for 8 years before moving down to Surrey. We purchased the car from a 25-year ownership in late 2024 and the car has just 2 registered keepers in the UK.
It is a very honest and charming example, the bodywork is mostly blemish free with the only notable scuff being on the OSR arch (see pics). It’s clear that the bodywork has never been filled over or repaired cheaply, it's simply been enjoyed, preserved and cared-for over the years. Unfortunately, as is relatively common with these, the hood has a tear in each side on the rear corners which have been patched up from the inside. Just so that they don’t leak in case of a downpour. The chrome is in good, original condition with only some pitting to the window surrounds and light marks to the bumpers. The interior paint and door shuts have some chips from where the seatbelts have been taken off after driving. The original 'GT' steel wheels have recently been powder coated and are in perfect condition, we fitted them with NOS Michelin XZX tyres. The interior trim is in very good condition with no staining, rips or holes. There are a couple of small cracks on the dash top (see pics). The glass looks to be all original and evenl retains the California emissions sticker on the rear side window. The Blaupunkt radio works as it should, as do all the heater controls and electrical switches. A discreet starter switch has been fitted on the dashboard for added security.
Mechanically, the car is very good. It starts up easily and drives perfectly with no smoke or unwanted noises. These Super Beetles handle surprisingly well thanks to their McPherson strut suspension; we have thoroughly enjoyed using it around the Cotswolds during the summer. We've recently rebuilt the front brakes and handbrake mechanism, and fitted new fuel filters. Just prior to our ownership (400 miles ago), it was freshly serviced and had a new fuel pump and hoses fitted. The paperwork includes V5, various invoices and MOTs from over the years and an owner's handbook.
The car is based at our studio in Bicester, please contact Greg with any questions, or to arrange a viewing.
